If one focuses one’s efforts on being very self-disciplined with regard to the small details in life, then one will become a generally self-controlled and more careful person.
This is like the expression “Look after the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves”.
However, obsessive self-control can lead to rigidity and is associated with a multitude of psychological and psychiatric problems.
Rather, a healthier mental state is characterized by an optimal balance between self-control and flexibility.
